Cogne Ice Climbing Course
A chance to enjoy some of Europes finest ice climbs. Cogne is the jewel in the crown of Italy’s ice climbing. It has the highest concentration of quality ice routes of any where in Europe. The weather is often excellent and conditions reliable for ice. Most climbs start around 1900m and due to elevation guarentees cold nights and frozen wateerfalls. There are a host of classic climbs of every grade. Cascade de Lillaz 3, Patriu 4, Lau Biaj 5 and Repentance 6. You can climb long multi pitch ice routes or pick off sunny single pitch climbs. Its an ideal place to learn to ice climb or push your grade leading or just experience some climbs with an experienced Guide.The town of Cogne has an incredible position in the heart of the National Park of the Gran Paradiso. The old hunting grounds oif the King of Italy have now transformed intio a stunning area for the walkers, skiers and climbers. The old town, with cobble streets, has charm at every corner., Classic cafes, bars and shops offer quality Italian culture at Italian prices. A coffee will be around 1.5 euros compared to 4 in Chamonix!

Programme
During the course: all ropework will be covered, avalanche training, placing ice screws, ice threads, moving on ice cramponing, climbing coaching, lead climbing instruction, experience multipitch climbs and descents. Each day will invoilve a different climb which will be dicied on in the Hotel Bar the night before.
Hotel La Blame in Valnontey
The course will be based at the Hotel La Balme in valley Valnontey, a short distance just outside the main town of Cogne. The Hotel Restaurant La Barme is situated in the heart of the Gran Paradiso National Park, just 2 km from the village of Cogne. The building and its location are in perfect harmony with the quaint rustic village of Valnontey with its beautiful mountain scenery and wildlife. This charming hotel has been developed from a cluster of authentic old mountain buildings, in keeping with the local tradition of stone and wood in valdôtain style. It is charming and quaint . The hotels unique situation is a superb base for walking and hiking in the summer and cross-country skiing and icefall climbing in the winter.
